Indian Flamenco

Our dance style takes inspiration from both Flamenco and Rajasthani folk dance from northern India but have you ever looked at the similarities in these two styles? Just watch this video, not surprising really if you know the history.

DNA studies now show that about 1500 years ago the diaspora of the ancestors of the Roma people from North West India arrived in Europe around 900 years ago. They travelled through many countries, either settling along the way or continuing their journey to new and foreign lands. One of their routes went north through Persia (Iran), then into Hungary, France and Spain. Wherever they went they brought their own traditions, stories, music and dance and we can see how that evolved into Spanish Flamenco and now, even later, it's easy to recognise the inspiration of floreos, spins and barrel turns in our dance.
