Kelley Beeston - Kalash Tribal
FatChance® style belly dance

Sharon Crosby (M.A., P.G.C.E.)

Sharon has lived, worked and taught in Yorkshire for many years. She trained as a painter-printmaker at Chelsea School and Wimbledon School of Art and also to be a teacher at Leeds University.
She is also an active member of the Ilkley Art club.
Sharon's work is based mainly on seascapes; you could say that she identifies strongly and is drawn to the sea and sea views constantly returning to our coastlines, in particular the Yorkshire and Northumberland coast, but visits to Australia have also inspired her work using dry felts and acrylic on paper.
Sharon loves dancing and is is an accomplished FCBD® style dancer having completed Teacher Training in Soest 2024. She regularly attends Kelley's online classes and teaches a monthly workshop in Shipley. Her troupe is Juniper tribal performing at Hafla’s and other events.
She also dances Cuban salsa and is part of a ladies only group, called ‘Vamos Amigas’ performing at events, including a Cuban salsa event in Blackpool.
Sharon has been a trustee, since 2010, of a charity called ‘Give a Child a Hope’ that mainly supports some of the most vulnerable children in Matugga, Uganda, and has visited the centre 4 times teaching art to the 'O' and 'A' level students who are preparing for their exam.
A young Pastor, Ivan, saw that children living on the streets and fending for themselves needed help. Through determination and help from St John’s, in West Yorkshire, he opened an orphanage and primary school; he called those children ‘Champions’. Today there is provision for a primary and secondary school, including 'A' level. Dormitories for boys and girls for up to 500 children.
There is a scholarship fund for university given to the 'champion' with the best results and a clinic that supports the school and the local community.
They have recently started a new project, where those champions leaving school have the possibility of doing further training, in tailoring, hairdressing and beauty. Ivan calls this cosmetology.
Serendipity Workshops
Through the looking glass
20.00 - 21.00 Friday - all participants
Friday night is music and arty stuff night.
Have you ever really looked closely at your eyes? They have been called the ‘windows to the soul’.
When you look at your reflection, what do you see? A lifetime of worries and concerns, that have been both amazing and problematic, or do you see a resilient face looking back and firmly staking your claim?
You might create something from those experiences; a poignant moment, a treasured memory, or you might be picturing a special place? That place could be a walk in the woods, or a visit to a beach? How might you show the importance of your memories in your creative response?
The music may provide some inspiration in a direct way, or simply help you to focus? Or you could simply spend the time just drawing from your eyes, face, or yourself in your imaginary landscape?
Use the materials and help sheets provided to make your special portrait and or place.
Bring a small mirror, to get you started.
